With a deep love for photography, Cassie Britton has gone full time with Hope Harbour Photography, capturing feelings, moments and memories for her clients. Cassie talks to us about art, community, memories and a love for this new path that she chose.

Tell us about your business/organization's journey - do you recall how you first discovered your interest and passion for your work?
When I was a kid, I spent about 60% of my allowance developing film… and the other 40% on candy — a perfectly balanced budget, obviously.
Everything changed when my parents brought home our first digital camera. It quickly became an extension of me. By high school, I was photographing everything — my friends, band practice, my dog (a lot of dog photos), and even organizing mini photoshoots during lunch.
In Grade 11, I was asked to photograph for the yearbook after shooting football games just for fun. That moment shifted everything. Up until then, I had planned on going into mechanical engineering or architecture — but standing on the sidelines, capturing real emotion and seeing those moments shared, I knew I had found what I was meant to do.
I went on to study Photography at Fanshawe College, originally dreaming of becoming an Olympic sports photographer. I loved the fast-paced, real, unscripted moments that sports brought.
But during my co-op placement, I photographed my first wedding — and everything changed.
Sports photography captures a moment.
Wedding photography tells a full story.

The emotion, the connection, the in-between moments — I was completely hooked.
Around that same time in my life, I experienced the loss of my grandparents. It deeply shaped how I see photography. I realized just how important it is to have photos of the people you love — not just for now, but for the years when those memories are all you have to hold onto.
That perspective is what I carry into every session. These aren’t just photos — they’re the moments you’ll come back to, the ones you’ll frame, flip through, and hold onto forever. Over time, I knew without a doubt that wedding and portrait photography was where I was meant to be. I also met my husband, Kirk, during college — and being surrounded by love on wedding days always brings me back to that feeling. It’s a constant reminder of why this work matters so much.
I have no regrets about changing paths.
While sports photography captures epic moments in time, wedding and portrait photography captures the moments you will cherish most — the ones you frame on your walls, flip through years later, and quietly think, “I’m so thankful I have these.
Just like I do with the photos of my grandparents.
The smiles, the connections, the people you never want to forget...
Tell us about your business/group. What services or products do you provide? What is your vision and what are your goals?
I offer wedding and portrait photography, focused on capturing real moments as they naturally unfold.
What draws me to this work is the energy — the kind that flows both ways during a session. The laughter, the quiet in-between moments, the chaos, the love. I’m passionate about documenting life as it’s happening because I know how quickly it all passes.
My vision is to create images that feel just as meaningful years from now as they do today — photos that bring you back to how it all felt, not just how it looked.
My goal is to give people something lasting. The smiles, the connections, the people you never want to forget — captured in a way that you can return to, over and over again.
Because in the end, these aren’t just photos — they’re memories you get to keep.
What is the most challenging part of running your business/organization - and what’s the most rewarding?
Honestly, the most challenging part of running my business is social media. Trying to stay consistent, keep up with all the changes, and just be seen can feel like a lot sometimes. But I’ve been learning that it’s not about doing everything perfectly — it’s about showing up as myself. The more I lean into being my goofy, fun, colourful self, the more I actually connect with the right people.

The most rewarding part is 100% my clients.
It’s those moments during a session when someone starts off saying, “I’m so awkward in front of a camera,” and then later they see their photos and go, “Wait… that’s actually us?!” Those little shifts are the best.
But even more than that, it’s when the photos become something deeper.
I had a client recently reach out after losing a family member, sharing how grateful they were to have so many photos of them together from their wedding day. Knowing I was able to give them something they can hold onto forever… that’s everything.
Those are the moments that stick with me — and remind me exactly why I do this.
Art is art, and community is community. There’s space for everyone because everyone sees the world a little differently, and that’s what makes it so special.
How do you hope people feel or what do you hope they take away when they visit your business/organization?
Whether it’s a family, a couple, or even a pup coming in for a session, I always hope they walk away feeling three things:
That they had fun (because laughter — and happy tail wags — are a must),
that they felt truly valued, respected, and at ease, and
that they’re already excited to do it all over again.
I never want anyone to feel nervous or uncomfortable about having their photo taken. My goal is to create a space where people can just be themselves and actually enjoy the experience.
Because when they look back on their photos, I don’t just want them to love how they look — I want them to remember how good it felt to be there.
What role do you think small businesses or community groups, especially in the creative field, play in a community like ours?
I truly believe small businesses play such a big role in a community like ours — especially when it comes to connection and keeping things positive.
They’re what bring the uniqueness. Without them, we lose those one-of-a-kind pieces, the creatives, and the artists that make a community feel alive. And the best part is how much small businesses support each other — it creates this ripple effect where creativity grows and people continue to have access to the arts.
In a world that can feel a little heavy sometimes, small businesses help bring that light back in. They create spaces for connection, joy, and inspiration.
At the end of the day, it’s really about community — showing up for each other, supporting one another, and building something meaningful together. And that’s what makes small businesses so important.
What’s next for you—are there any upcoming projects, shows, events, or milestones you’re excited to share?

I’ve officially gone full-time this year (WOO!!), so what’s next for me is really pouring into my clients and their experience.
I want every single person I work with to feel taken care of, have fun, and walk away with something that feels so them. That also means creating more opportunities to connect — through events, collaborations, and unique experiences that go beyond just a session.
To kick things off, I’m SO excited to be hosting Lavender Field Minis this June in collaboration with a local lavender farm in Arva. It’s one of those dreamy, joy-filled experiences I’ve been wanting to bring to life, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone!
I truly believe small businesses play such a big role in a community like ours — especially when it comes to connection and keeping things positive.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Communities are made up of so many incredible creatives — artists, painters, sewists, photographers, and so much more.
And one of my favourite things is that no matter how many people are doing the same thing, there is always room for more. Even within photography — whether there are 10 of us or 100 — it doesn’t matter. Art is art, and community is community. There’s space for everyone because everyone sees the world a little differently, and that’s what makes it so special.
There truly is someone for everyone, and that’s a big part of why I love it so much.
