Using both photography and videography to capture the important moments for 18 years, Amanda of Amanda Kopcic Photography & Videography dives in to what it is to run a creative business with her husband, Jazz, and getting to grow alongside the memories they capture.
Tell us about your creative journey - do you recall how you first discovered your interest and passion for the arts?
I have always had an interest in the arts. From a young age I use to sing with multiple bands, as I grew older and started a family I wanted to continue something creative that didn't involve so much travel time. After taking a photography course and many years of practice, I have found a personal love for the visual arts in photography.
A few years in, my husband Jazz started adding on videography services and we have since been in business for 18 years, capturing peoples special moments in both still and moving pictures.
Tell us about your business. What services or products do you provide? What is your vision and what are your goals?
We offer a wide range of services in both photo and video. Mainly focusing on personal photography (newborn, family, legacy, maternity, kids, milestones and sports). Our video work is highly focused in on corporate/businesses, events and legacy story telling videos.
Being able to capture images that people are excited to hang on their wall, share with family and friends, and want to come back year after year, are some of the most rewarding parts.
What is the most challenging part of running your business - and what’s the most rewarding?
I'd say the most challenging is the roller coaster. You will have times were you feel like you're drowning in work and then other times when things are moving much slower. The up and down can be hard mentally at times.
However, being able to capture images that people are excited to hang on their wall, share with family and friends, and want to come back year after year, are some of the most rewarding parts. Our clients aren't just numbers, some becomes close friends. We get to grow with the families - seeing them on a regular basis, capturing milestones like graduations, birthdays, new siblings and family photos.
How do you hope people feel or what do you hope they take away when they visit your business?
That it was easy, not hard. Getting your photo taken, or being on camera is a vulnerable thing. We want clients to have fun and feel comfortable during their session. We hope that when they look back on a session they don't have any anxious feelings but rather a light hearted joy and confidence so they may want to return for more milestones and memories!
What role do you think small businesses, especially in the creative field, play in a community like ours?
A HUGE role! In a small town, everyone knows everyone. It's nice to say hi to people on the street and call them by name. It makes it feel more like a big family and there is comfort and trust in that, especially when it comes to working creatively with others.
What’s next for you—are there any upcoming projects, events, or milestones you’re excited to share?
We have just announced our artistic sports photography for individual athletes, so that's new and something we are really loving. We are always very excited to welcome lots of babies in the next few months and capture their growth along with many extended family sessions over the summer and fall seasons. Watching families grow is a true blessing.
We hope that when they look back on a session they don't have any anxious feelings but rather a light hearted joy.
Anything else you'd like to add, or let us know?
Our studio is right here in Strathroy. While we love working outdoors, or capturing a space you call home, we are so happy to have our spacious 1,200 sq. ft. photo and video studio. The space welcomes newborns to a warm, quiet studio, or families, milestone sessions or corporate portraits for a beautiful session, rain or shine.
